The old rules, don't open weird attachments, don't click sketchy links, don't visit shady sites, aren't enough anymore. The scam that's spreading fastest right now doesn't need you to download anything at all. It needs you to copy something, paste it, and hit enter. This one just happens to hand your machine to someone else. And it's not limited to shady corners of the internet either, in May 2026, attackers compromised over 700 real education and tech websites and used them to serve fake verification pages to people who had every reason to trust those sites.
